Holiday baking is one of my absolute favourite things on the planet. Every year my family sets aside 1 day and we spend a few hours (usually well in to the night) baking up a storm. We have our tried and true favourites and the newer classics, plus I always like to pick one or two recipes that are different to change things up a little. Full disclaimer: as much as I always love them (last years peppermint crunch chocolate chip cookies were bomb!), they don’t always go over so well with my family and friends (the eggnog iced cookies kind of just sat there).
I have a love/hate relationship with sugar cookies. They’re so Christmas-y and pretty, and I actually like the taste of them, but they are a true labour of love. Making them is pretty tedious – with the rolling and the chilling and, by God, the decorating! So much work, never enough appreciation. And yet, every year I go through it all because I am such a glutton for punishment. But what else is new? (Remember the cake pops?!)
