In the past year or so I’ve been on a bit of a journey when it comes to my beauty routine. To be honest, I pretty much ditched my makeup bag and kept to a few bare essentials (eyebrow pencil, concealer, bronzer, mascara) on those days where I felt like I needed something. But I really got comfortable in my bare skin and focused a lot more on things like skincare. Honestly, it’s been pretty liberating and I’m happy that most days I can walk out the door without feeling like I need to cover things up (it also lets me sleep in a lot more). But now that I feel like I don’t need it, I’ve found myself excited to play around with makeup again. Some days I just feel like looking a little bit different or trying a new technique or product and it’s been really great to remember that I actually love beauty and makeup and it feels fun again. So in that vain, I’ve been rummaging through my makeup bag (and picking up some new products) and I thought I’d share with you all my current favourite beauty favourites.
Maybelline Fit Me – Matte and Poreless Foundation: I haven’t worn liquid foundation in forever so when I wanted to try it out again I needed to purchase a new one. I have combination/oily skin and was looking for something matte that would also just even out my skin. I’d watched/read a lot of reviews on this foundation and I have to say that it did not disappoint. It’s about medium coverage but lasts all day and really does a good job at keeping the oil away.
Benefit Stay Don’t Stray Eye Primer: Like I said, I get oily and that includes my eyelids. I don’t wear eyeshadow too often so when I do there’s nothing worse than spending all that time blending and smoking and buffing to have it all end up smeared in the crease, you know? This eyeshadow primer is practically budge-proof which means all my hard work will stay where it’s supposed to.
Colourpop Lippie Stix in Rayezor: I bought this lip product quite a while ago but honestly kind of forgot about it. Recently I misplaced my all-time favourite nude lipstick and found this one while searching for it in my makeup bag. It’s coming across a lot deeper in the picture but it’s actually a soft peachy nude colour which is perfect for spring. Or always. Whatever.
Tarte ‘Tartelette’ Palette: This is another old favourite that I just pulled out again. I know this palette had a lot of mixed reviews but I personally love it. All the shades work really well with my colouring and are super easy to blend. I can create really natural looks or amp things up a little with some of the deeper shades so it works well for all my needs.
Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner: I have been an Herbal Essences girl for a long time so including a new shampoo and conditioner in my favourites is kind of a big deal. I haven’t used Tresemme in years and I’m really impressed with their new lines. The coconut milk and aloe shampoo smells so good but this Keratin line leaves my hair super soft and nourished without weighing it down and making it greasy. Plus it’s pretty cheap from the drugstore – major win.
CND VINYLUX Topcoat: I was first given CND nail polishes as a gift from a friend whose mom runs a beauty salon. And while the colour polishes were good it was this topcoat that really made me fall in love. It’s super thick (without being gloopy) and gives a really shiny, gel-like finish that actually makes your manicure last forever. This means I can use my Essie polishes (that are prone to chipping) like this one in Bikini So Teeny which is currently on my nails. Plus CND has made it’s way to some drugstores and most salons so it’s way more accessible now than it used to be.
Loreal Pure-Clay Cleansing Mask: I’m pretty sure I talked about this mask already but it’s so good it’s worth mentioning again. Although I’m generally pretty happy with my skin I did experience a really weird breakout a couple weeks ago and this mask was one of the only things that really worked to clear it up. Just make sure to follow it up with a good moisturizer!
So there you guys have it, the products I’ve really been reaching for lately. What are some of your favourite products at the moment?
